Love a good winter wedding! This one was a COLD one. Starting the day out at a chalet on Lac Brompton and later moving to the Grange Rouge reception hall in Saint-Denis-de-Brompton for the ceremony and reception, Jennifer and Jonathan’s wedding was such a great time!
Dori & Matt's Wedding in North Hatley, QC
I typically begin a wedding day at around noon, when the bride is still getting ready. This is a key time for me to not only gather the detail photos, but to allow the bride and her wedding party to get used to being in front of my lens (and more or less pretending I'm not there!). It's quite rare that I book a wedding where I'm scheduled to show up just fifteen minutes before the ceremony but Dori and Matt are not my typical couple. Their love shone straight through any camera-related jitters and their beautiful wedding at the North Hatley Club went off without a hitch (well, just one 😉 ). Matt & Dori were true naturals in front of the camera and made my job very easy.
When we first chatted about the wedding in detail a few months ago, Dori told me that she had opted to skip over the traditional white gown in favour of a (gorgeous!) red cocktail dress. I was so intrigued by this idea, and seeing it in person against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Massawippi, I could not agree more with Dori's fashion decision. It was absolutely striking!
Arlene & Steven's Wedding in Baldwin's Mills, QC | August 5, 2017
I met Arlene and Steven over some Coaticook ice cream just a few weeks ago in order to get to know them and figure out all of their wedding details. We talked video games, tech, and other geeky pursuits (my OTHER area of expertise 😉), their plans for their wedding were well thought out, yet low-key. Nothing overly complicated and a rather flexible schedule (always makes things so much easier). They were to be married in a small town on the Canada/US border, where Steven's family has a cottage. They were renting out the only church in town for the ceremony and would have the reception in the backyard of the family cottage.
When their wedding day finally arrived, the forecast wasn't looking so good. We've had a constant stream of thunderstorms hitting the area recently and their wedding day was not spared from our cruddy weather. We're talking torrential downpours and shake-the-house thunder here. As I made my way to Baldwin's Mills, I had high hopes that we might dodge the brunt of it, but as I neared the little village it began to rain more and more. When I arrived where Arlene & her bridesmaids were getting ready, it seemed like I was more disappointed in the weather than Arlene & Steven. The gloomy weather did not put a dampener at all on their mood. Arlene & the girls were getting their hair and makeup done while singing along to a playlist of Disney songs. It was then I realized that despite the soggy weather, the show was going to go on. And on it went, from a short and sweet ceremony in the Baldwin's Mills United Church to the reception back at the cottage with ping pong, drinks in a canoe, a blossoming Lego MiniFigure black market (amazing wedding favour idea!!) and a tent to shelter us from the rain. We got lucky and the storm clouds briefly parted around golden hour so Arlene and Steven could hop into a rowboat for some quick pictures before the rain resumed.
I hope my shoes dry out someday! 😛
Flavie & Mike's Backyard Wedding in Rock Forest, QC | June 24, 2017
It's not often that I get an inquiry for a wedding with less than a month's notice, but I just couldn't turn down the concept that Flavie pitched to me: a low-key garden party, where she & Mike happened to get married. Apparently, flowers for the tables weren't in the plans until a serendipitous encounter with a florist neighbour. I asked around the (rather intimate) party and the consensus was that this concept was *very* Mike & Flavie. Together for many years already, with two little munchkins, this wedding was really just a rubber stamp on their longstanding partnership. Check out the pictures below :)
